After 4 Years Of Waiting, I Finally Want To Play Dead Rising

Castrum - Once upon a time, I wanted to love Dead Rising. I really did. However, one sticking point that always kept me from wanting to buy it was a simple one: the time limit. Imagine placing a time limit in a game like GTA, a fairly arbitrary one at that; for anyone who doesn't care about the main storyline (which is usually myself, with regards to sandbox games), it's basically a dealbreaker.

Luckily, Capcom has finally decided to listen to 4 years' worth of exasperated complaints and has allowed for a "Sandbox Mode" in the expansion/remake/whatever-it-is Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, free of arbitrary time limits on your zombie killing sprees. It's about time.

Witcher 2 $30 Until End Of The Week

Castrum - The Witcher 2 is marked down to $30 on GOG.com until the end of the week (I'd say probably Monday the sale will end), so get it while you can:

DRM-free digital distribution platform GoG has given us another reason to get excited about Gamescom -- a reason that doesn't include the near-constant stream of tasty German beers. For the rest of the week, CD Projekt's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has been marked down to $29.99 on the GoG storefront.

DeathSpank: The Baconing Coming August 31st

Castrum - I enjoyed DeathSpank 1 and 2, so I'll likely be picking this one up. Hopefully it can help tide me over until Skyrim... hopefully:

Blizzard Seriously Considering Diablo 3 On Consoles

Castrum - I'm not sure which version I would get if this happened: 

At Blizzard Entertainment's Gamescom press conference, Diablo III lead designer Josh Mosqueira said the developer is "very, very serious" about bringing some undefined "experience" to platforms beyond the PC and Mac.

"Today, we're trying to build the best console team at Blizzard," Mosqueira said during a Q&A session. "We're looking for programmers, designers and artists who think their dream job would be to bring Diablo to the console."

While neither announcing nor confirming Diablo III for a Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo console platform, Mosqueira promised "All I can say is it's going to be awesome. Stay tuned."

Castrum - I'm cautiously optimistic about this one:

38 Studios' Ken Rolston, who just shook the Earth during the Gamescom 2011 EA Keynote with bon mots like "enemy-pounding funfest," just revealed the official launch date for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. The promising action-RPG is due out in the States on February 7, 2012 and in Europe on February 10.

Ninja Gaiden 3 Jumping On The Motion Control Bandwagon

Today at Gamescom in Germany, Tecmo's Team Ninja revealed that Ninja Gaiden 3 was getting physical with the PlayStation Move, finally allowing the player and Ryu to commiserate over how difficult it is to slash at enemies for hours on end.

The dumbing-down of gaming continues.

Warhammer Online Reduced To A CTF Match

Castrum - Sad to see such a great IP brought so low by mediocre developers (Mythic) and the tyranny of WoW:

I played WAR a few years back, and the game had absolutely beautiful graphics and main cities, as well as several features Blizzard blatantly ripped-off and passed-off as their own in WoW (Tome of Knowledge/Archaeology comes to mind). I just wish it hadn't come to this.
