Playstation Pulls Two Games For Fears Of Hacks

Tuesday, 27 March 2012 0 comments

Sony has decided to pull two games from PSN, Hot Shots Tennis and Motorstorm: Article Edge, for fears that tech-savvy users will be able to exploit a glitch that involves the way the PS Vita emulates games in "PSP Mode."

I could see that being a point of sale. Make that claim for a game that isn't selling so well, and BAM. One million sales.

Sony Considers UMD Download Discount For Vita

Tuesday, 18 October 2011 0 comments

Bringing yet another weird back-wards compatibility issue to the table, Sony has announced they are looking into and considering a discount for PSN versions of UMD games you own. They also note that just because they are looking into this, that it does not mean it will come to fruition.

How this service would work has not yet been revealed. I'm wondering if it would require you to insert the UMD into an old PSP with your PSN account, and have the info uploaded to your account. I'm also wondering how steep the discounts will actually be.

A problem that has been pointed out in the FAQ is that the Vita will be able to play all downloadable PSP Games, except the Game Archives section (of the Japanese PSN Store) which includes Neo Geo, PSone Classics, and other older titles.

After 3 Years Of People Not Caring, Sony Turning Home Into A Game

Tuesday, 23 August 2011 1 comments

Castrum - So it would seem Sony is finally going to do something with Home. About damn time:

The new PlayStation Home, Sony says, represents the social platform's "evolution from a virtual environment to a world of games, with a focus on rapidly connecting players with game content that pertains to their style and mood." Gone will be much of the architecture of the current Home, replaced by a space called the Hub and a series of districts based on themes, a digital Disney World designed with core gamers in mind.

The Hub of the new Home is a sleek, bright entrance into this redesigned world. The new entrance to Home, the Hub looks like a futuristic airport or mall—clean, populated by virtual shoppers and travelers, and drawing some visual influence from Valve's Portal 2. It has been designed to get Home visitors to destinations and games faster; to pop you into a social space, not an empty apartment; and to immediately have "a huge game staring you in the face as soon as you come in," says Jack Buser, director of PlayStation Home.

...

From the Hub, PS3 owners can also visit Home's new districts, each inspired by the Tomorrowland and Adventureland of Disney World, each loosely themed around video game genres.
Home's Action District is geared toward the Call of Duty, Resistance and Killzone player, with an "urban feel reminiscent of a first-person shooter level" that "provides a direct travel point to action and horror games." Whether we'll actually be able to shoot our fellow Home visitors in the face, or just give them finger guns while dancing with them, remains to be seen.
The Adventure District is more suited for the Tomb Raider and Uncharted fan, an area designed as a "lush island jungle with an air of mystery, hidden treasure and discovery." I got a peek at the Adventure District at this year's E3 and was impressed by its ancient architecture and detailed idols. It's one of the more intriguing areas, as it may be home to the most interesting quests and treasure hunts the new Home has to offer. (It was also previously rolled into the Action District, but Sony split the two after early feedback.)

Silent Hill: Book Of Memories To Have Multiplayer, Feature Character Creation

Wednesday, 17 August 2011 0 comments

MjolnirX - Silent Hill: Book Of Memories is slated to be released for the PS Vita. It will be the first Silent Hill game to feature multiplayer, co-operative play and character creation. It also features a story that breaks away from the conventional Silent Hill canon. Though the characters will be new, the creatures will be similar to the ones featured in previous Silent Hill games. The game's release window is "Early 2012". Though the game has not yet been "Concept Approved," it's looking mighty good.

Sony Asks What Accessories Japanese Gamers Want For Vita

Monday, 15 August 2011 1 comments

MjolnirX - The Japanese Playstation Vita website is conducting a survey to find out which accessories and peripherals that us, the gaming consumers, want to see made available after launch.

Some of the suggestions made so far are a full keyboard, a grip with extra battery life in it, a UMD slot and a cradle with an HDMI-out port in it.

Many people are saying or hoping this PSP sequel will fail, especially with the 3DS price drop. I'm cautiously optimistic. I'll be holding out on it like I did with the Xperia Play (it sucked). So what say you, readers? What accessories do you wish to see with your new PS Vita? Do you hope the Vita suceeds, or surpasses the 3DS? Or do you wish to see it crash and burn?

For me, I would like to see it succeed, and come with:

- a lower price point (gift card/free games are okay too)

- being able to make calls through its 3G (Skype? Cell Phone plan? Bye-bye Cell Phone)
